Competitions

Competitions that keep their own score.

Set the ranking, the window, the prizes and the entry tickets, then publish. Traders compete under their own handle, the standings are worked out on live equity every five minutes, and when the window closes the ranks freeze. One click hands every prize to its winner.

What a competition does, one part at a time.

01

Set up in one form

Name the event, pick how it ranks, set when it runs and when entries close, add the prize tiers and the entry tickets. It stays a draft for your team, or goes out the moment you save. Every time is in your firm's time zone.

  • A start with Now, an end one click away: 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks or 30 days
  • Entries close at the start, at the end, or at any moment before the end
  • A description of up to 2000 characters that traders read
  • Run again copies an event to a new window of the same length

Three ways to rank

The ranking decides who a competition rewards. Percentage return is fair when traders enter with different account sizes. Profit in money gives a larger account the edge. Return per risk divides the return by the deepest drawdown during the event, so a reckless climb ranks below a steady one.

  • Percentage return, the profit as a share of the starting balance
  • Profit in the account's currency
  • Return per risk, with the drawdown from the event's own days
  • A trader without any drawdown is scored on the return itself

Entry tickets that stay in the event

A trader enters with an entry ticket: one of your challenges, attached to the event. Set its price, the limit per trader and whether it is on sale right in the event. A ticket leaves your pricing page and is only sold through its event, so an entry account can never be picked up anywhere else.

  • Free tickets claimed on the event page, paid ones bought through checkout
  • A limit per trader, so a free entry stays one per person
  • Entries refused once they close, whatever the trader clicks
  • The entry account trades under the rules of its challenge

A leaderboard traders follow

The event page puts the standings beside the ways to enter and the prizes. A trader finds their own place lifted out of the list, and when it is on another page it stands under the list with a button that jumps to it. Before the end every prize reads In the running, because nothing is final yet.

  • Search by handle, fifty traders to a page
  • The top three set apart, each rank beside the prize it wins
  • A row opens the profile of whoever holds that place
  • Their standing in every event on their list and their dashboard

Under their own handle

Other traders never see a real name. Every trader picks a handle, unique within your firm, and that is who they are on every leaderboard. A row opens their profile, with what they chose to show. Your own screens keep the real name, so your team always knows who is who.

  • Picked at sign up, with a free one offered when theirs is taken
  • Lowercase letters, digits and underscores, 3 to 30 characters
  • Changed at most once every 30 days
  • Amounts on the profile only when the trader turns them on

Scored on live equity

While an event runs, every entry is scored from the live equity of its account every five minutes, open trades included. A trade that is still open moves a trader on the board before it closes. Your team can work the standings out at once from the event.

  • Every five minutes, for every running event
  • Refresh standings now, from the event itself
  • Ties go to whoever entered first
  • An entry without a score yet stands at the bottom

It moves along by itself

An event steps from draft to completed, and the clock takes the steps that belong to it: a published event goes live at its start and closes at its end. The rest is a button, and each button first checks where the event stands, so a screen left open for an hour cannot undo what the clock already did.

  • Publish, or take it back to a draft before it starts
  • End now, which works the scores out one last time
  • Reopen with a new end, until a prize went out
  • Cancel without prizes, then bring it back as a draft

Take a trader out of the ranking

When somebody won in a way you do not accept, take them out with a reason only your team reads. They drop off the board and cannot win, and the trader is not told. Their score is kept, so you can put them back where they stood. After the end the ranks are worked out again over the frozen scores, and the next trader moves up into the prize.

  • A reason of up to 280 characters, for your team only
  • Put back where their score places them
  • The ranks below move up, over the frozen scores
  • Written to the activity log, and locked once a prize went out

Three kinds of prize, one click

Each tier covers one rank or a range of ranks and wins a free challenge, cash in a currency you pick, or a coupon. When the event waits for its prizes, Award prizes hands every one of them to the trader who won it, and each prize shows what it became.

  • A free challenge becomes an account in its first phase
  • Cash becomes a payout request in your payouts queue
  • A coupon is a single-use code, made for the winner alone
  • A tier that cannot be made stops the award there, with the reason

Warnings before you save

Beside the form the event stands as a trader will meet it, with the cash on the table and what entering costs. Under that, a warning for everything that cannot work: a gap between tiers, a ticket nobody can use, a free entry without a limit. Only what you changed is sent, so a save never puts back what the clock moved on.

  • Tiers that overlap, leave a gap, or do not start at rank 1
  • No ticket, a ticket switched off, or a free one without a limit
  • A new ranking while traders already entered
  • A ticket that is on your pricing page or in another event

Questions

Questions about competitions

No. On every leaderboard a trader appears under their handle, and their profile shows only what they chose to show. Your team sees the real name, the email address and the account on its own screens.

The window closes by itself and the ranks freeze, then the event waits for your team. One click on Award prizes hands out every prize at once. Cash becomes a payout request in your payouts queue, so money still leaves only when you approve it.

Every five minutes while the event runs, from the live equity of each entry account, open trades included. Your team can refresh the standings at once from the event. After the end the ranks stay as they were frozen.

Only as often as the ticket allows. Each ticket has a limit per trader that you set, and every entry account takes a place of its own on the board. The editor warns you about a free ticket without a limit.

Take them out of the ranking with a reason only your team reads. They cannot win, the trader below them moves up, and you can put them back. That works until the first prize went out. Entry accounts also trade under the rules of their challenge, like any other account.

Yes, with one switch under Platform features. Events leave your traders' menu and yours, and the pages behind them close. Nothing is deleted, and everything is back when you switch it on again.
